GRP 致力于加强全球钢铁行业的可持续性
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) has expressed its commitment to strengthening the sustainability of the global steel industry as part of its efforts to implement the outcomes of the 19th World Steel Association Environment Committee (ECO) meeting, held in Jakarta from February 24-26, 2025.
GRP Chief Transformation Officer Kelvin Fu stated that the event, which brought together global steel industry leaders, government representatives, and environmental experts from worldsteel, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration in formulating policies and strategies to accelerate the transition toward sustainable steel production.
“The journey toward environmental transformation cannot be undertaken alone. Partnering with worldsteel is crucial in guiding GRP, especially through programs like StepUp, which have provided us with the tools and insights to navigate the complexities of sustainable steel production,” Kelvin said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
He further explained that worldsteel’s commitment to collaboration and innovation has empowered GRP to embrace the transition toward a lower-carbon future.
“This proves that even new players can become leaders in the global effort to improve environmental management,” he said.
By hosting the 19th worldsteel ECO Meeting, he added, GRP is further strengthening its leadership in steel industry decarbonization efforts in Southeast Asia.
“This demonstrates that a sustainable and competitive steel sector can be achieved through collaboration, innovation, and shared commitment,” he added.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Indonesian Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA), Harry Warganegara, highlighted both the challenges and opportunities in low-carbon steel production in Indonesia.
“The transition to Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology presents a major opportunity for Indonesia to reduce emissions while meeting both domestic and international steel demand,” he said.
At the same event, worldsteel ECO Chairman José Fonrouge affirmed that the steel industry fully supports the goals of the Paris Agreement.
“We are committed to a lower-carbon future. ECO serves as a platform to accelerate the industry’s transformation,” he stated.
Additionally, worldsteel’s Head of Environment and Climate Change, Åsa Ekdahl, emphasized that governments, the steel industry, and other stakeholders must collaborate closely to address technological and economic challenges to ensure an effective transition to low-carbon steel.
