实施可持续发展和循环经济原则,GRP 荣获蓝色适当奖
Ecology and landscape management expert from IPB University, Hadi Susilo Arifin, commended PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) for securing the Blue PROPER Award for the 12th time this year, attributing the achievement to the company's implementation of sustainability and circular economy principles.
This accolade was attained through technological innovations in collaboration with a European company, supporting GRP's plan to produce carbon-free hot rolled coils (HRC) by 2027. "This is commendable and should be emulated. Industries ought to follow such practices, especially since the company has adopted a circular economy," Hadi stated on Sunday (April 20).
Hadi also praised GRP's consistent efforts in greening its factory area. According to the company's sustainability report, by the end of 2023, GRP had planted over 9,000 trees from 78 different species. These efforts help maintain air quality and create a healthy environment for employees and the surrounding community. He explained that the photosynthesis process of the large trees in GRP's factory area absorbs CO₂, thereby reducing carbon emissions.
"The more green open spaces and larger trees there are, the more carbon emissions will decrease. Especially if fast-growing species are planted, as these trees indicate good CO₂ absorption," Hadi elaborated.
He also noted the positive impact of various sports facilities built by the company within its office environment. "That's excellent. For instance, having outdoor sports areas or gardens can serve as recreational spaces for employees, promoting both physical and mental health," he added.
Hadi further supported the company's initiative to install solar panels on the rooftops of its operational areas. According to the Indonesian Iron & Steel Industry Association (IISIA), GRP operates one of the largest rooftop solar panel installations in West Java, with a total capacity of 9.3 MWp. This initiative can reduce CO₂ emissions by 47,400 tons per year.
On another note, Hadi agreed with the company's commitment to improving the living standards, welfare, and health of the surrounding community, including road improvements to boost the local economy and mosquito nest eradication to combat dengue fever.
Moreover, the company's ability to employ thousands of local residents was seen as a positive factor in enhancing community welfare and driving the local economy. "This shows the company is not an ivory tower. Since it operates in Cikarang, the local community is a priority," Hadi concluded.
Separately, Sri Mulatsih, an environmental resource economics expert from IPB University, also praised GRP's commitment to environmental and sustainability goals, including the launch of its ESG Strategy Handbook in 2022. Sri agreed with the company's installation of rooftop solar panels and the use of scrap materials to support its circular economy initiatives.
Through these various efforts, Sri noted, GRP can be classified as a green industry and serve as a benchmark for other industries. "In the long term, these initiatives are expected to add value and enhance competitiveness—especially since GRP applies circular economy concepts in its production processes," she emphasized.
