保护沿海生态系统,GRP 重新种植 2,000 株红树林树苗

Cikarang Barat – PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) once again demonstrates its strong commitment to environmental preservation through its ongoing sustainable mangrove planting program at Pantai Bahagia, Muaragembong, Bekasi Regency. This program, which began in 2021, has successfully planted approximately 4,000 mangrove seedlings with the help of GRP employee volunteers, and this year, another 2,000 new seedlings have been planted in the area.
Mangroves play a crucial role in the coastal environment, especially in Indonesia, which is known as the country with the largest mangrove forests in the world, covering over 3.36 million hectares. Mangrove forests help reduce the impact of sea waves, protect coastlines from abrasion, and filter pollutants entering the ocean. Additionally, mangroves provide a habitat for diverse biodiversity and serve as an important food source for coastal communities.
However, the Pantai Bahagia area has suffered ecosystem damage due to land conversion for shrimp ponds, settlements, and rice fields. This has resulted in significant coastal erosion, reported to reach 10-20 meters per year, as well as the loss of the mangrove’s natural role as a habitat for coastal wildlife.
“We are very proud to continue our mangrove conservation efforts at Pantai Bahagia as part of our tangible contribution to reducing carbon emissions and supporting Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets. This program not only involves employees as volunteers but also brings a positive impact on the environment and the well-being of the local community,” said Sheren Omega, General Manager of Corporate Planning and Sustainability at GRP, on Monday (18/11).
This year's planting was conducted in collaboration with the NGO Ahli Salam Semesta, which plays a crucial role in the planting and maintenance of mangroves at Pantai Bahagia. Additionally, GRP partnered with a local SME, Kebaya, to develop mangrove-based products with innovative marketing, supported by education and donations of production equipment such as blenders, copper, and vacuum sealers. To strengthen the positive impact of this initiative, GRP also organized environmental education sessions for the local community about the importance of mangroves and the ecological and nutritional benefits of mangrove-based products. Along with employees, GRP also conducted a beach cleaning action to maintain the cleanliness of the area.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG No. 13 (Climate Action), SDG No. 15 (Life on Land), and SDG No. 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Moreover, this activity is in line with GRP's ESG strategy pillar, which focuses on responsible environmental management. “We believe that environmental conservation is a shared responsibility—not only for the government but also for the industrial sector and the wider community. Through concrete actions like this mangrove planting, we hope to make a long-term contribution to the coastal ecosystem and the well-being of the local community,” concluded Sheren.
