Jakarta, September 15, 2023 - In a dynamic partnership, GRP and SMS Group hosted a two-day Focus Group Discussion from September 14 to 15, 2023. With the theme "Green Steel in the Digital Age: A Focus Group Exploring Carbon Footprint Reduction," this activity also engaged stakeholders in the Indonesian steel industry. The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between GRP and SMS Group concerning the exploration of digital solutions to promote the sustainable development of the steel industry.
Argo Sangkaeng, President Director of GRP, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, stating, "We are highly enthusiastic about hosting this FGD event with the SMS Group, and we believe that this partnership will bring positive changes to the Indonesian steel industry. We look forward to exploring innovative and sustainable solutions that will help reduce the environmental impact of steel production."
Competent speakers were also featured, including Tim Kleier, Head of Green Steel at SMS Group, who shared innovative decarbonization strategies and discussed the implications of implementing the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for the industry, emphasizing the path toward a greener and more sustainable steel sector. Lis Soares, Head of Energy Management at SMS Group, discussed strategies for measuring and reducing carbon emissions in steel production while addressing the carbon tax regulatory environment.
Furthermore, Bernhard Steenken, Co-Chief Sales Officer for India & Asia Pacific at SMS Group, explained green technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions in steel production. He also stated, "We are delighted to participate in this Focus Group Discussion with GRP. We believe that this collaboration will have a significantly positive impact on the steel industry in Indonesia. This event provides a valuable opportunity to explore innovative and sustainable solutions that will help reduce the environmental impact of steel production."
Over the course of the two-day event, this initiative served as an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among stakeholders deeply concerned about environmental issues.
