Green Aggregate Production, PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) Could Be A Benchmark For Other Companies
The success of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) in producing green aggregate deserves appreciation and even becomes a benchmark for other companies. According to environmental economist Bernaulus Saragih, various companies should implement the concept of zero waste and zero emission, so that an environmentally friendly circular economy will be formed.
“This company (GRP) is extraordinary and should be applauded. They can maintain the value of the material so that it can be used again and again. Environmental care companies like this can be an example for other companies,” said Bernaulus to the media today.
According to Bernaulus, the success of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) in producing green aggregate is in line with current business trends, especially in supporting environmental sustainability. In this case, Bernaulus considers that the largest private steel company in the country has succeeded in implementing the 3R concept, namely Reuse Reduce, and Recycle.
"In addition to providing added value to the waste produced, companies like this can also increase competitiveness in their main industry, namely the steel industry. Because, at the international level, for example, not a few consider environmental concerns in trading partners," he said.
Regarding the success of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP) in processing waste steel into useful products with high economic value, namely green aggregate, previously stated by GRP President Director Abednedju Giovano Warani Sangkaeng. According to the man who is called Argo, this success is an effort to implement the concept of a circular economy, zero waste and the company's green environment. This is in line with the GRP program in Environment, Social, Governance (ESG).
"This is also a form of PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP)'s concern for the environment," he explained.
In producing green aggregate, continued Argo, the steel slag is first separated and then crushed into smaller sizes. This material contains several oxides such as CaO, MgO, Fe₂O₃, MnO₂ and SiO₂ which are beneficial for other industries and the environment.
According to Argo, applications for the use of green aggregate have been developed in many developed countries. Apart from the construction sector, other fields such as agriculture can also be used. Silica in green aggregate, for example, is very good as a fertilizer medium to increase plant growth and disease resistance. "In addition, it is also porous and alkaline so it is effective in neutralizing soil acidity," he said.
Green aggregate produced by GRP itself can clearly be divided into five types based on size. Starting from the Sand type measuring 0-4 mm, Screening Type 4-8 mm and 8-12 mm, and Split Type measuring 12-20 and 20-50 mm.
The division of the various size categories, he explained, to suit the user's industry. For example, a suitable product for the brick and paving block industry is the Sand Type. Meanwhile, the ready mix concrete industry and road base PU contractors can use Sand, Screening, and Split Types.
“As for road construction, because green aggregate is hard, wear-resistant, adhesive, and rough. Thus, the quality cannot be doubted,” said Argo at the time. (*)
